John is telling Markham at the suggestion of Edith Daly he sent a copy of Vision Beatific along with a letter asking you for a word of appreciation and critic. He hasn't heard anything and does'nt know whether he recieved the book. Would like and answer from Markham about this.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
